The demand for phlebotomy training classes is at an all time high right now and there are two broad trends that are responsible for the same. As the Baby Boomer generation gets older and requires more medical care, there is an increasing demand for all types of medical professionals. One of the biggest beneficiary of this trend are the phlebotomists. The market for certified phlebotomists is stronger than ever before and is growing rapidly.
The second trend is a generic risk aversion post the recent recession. The last recession has proved that most jobs are prone to economic recessions. Not so for medical professions like the job of a phlebotomists as people do not cut back on medical expenses that easily. Moreover a good part of the expense is taken care by insurance taken during good years.
As in the case of any other good or service, this increased demand for phlebotomy training has resulted in an increase in the fee charged by the training classes. However if you want to get a phlebotomy certification, do not get worried. There are a large number of ways in which you can get a free phlebotomy training.
Who offers free phlebotomy training?
Free phlebotomy training programs are offered by hospitals, nursing homes, old care homes, and job training groups and programs in a number of locations across the country. Even the government has started sponsoring some of these programs for people on unemployment support. It makes a lot of sense as the cost of the program is much lower than what it would have to spend on unemployment support.
Myths about Free Phlebotomy Training
1. Since it is free, it must be substandard: Please note that the free training is not a separate program. It is often the same program as the paid ones. There are a few seats for free and we are discussing about how to get into those free seats.
2. Exceptional academics is required to get phlebotomy training for free: Again this is not a scholarship. As we shall see in the next section of this post, the institutions offering the free training do require some committments from you.
Why do institutes offer free phlebotomy training
We have already looked at the organizations that provide the free training. Most of these people are trying to ensure that they get adequate number of phlebotomists without paying exorbiant salaries. By offering free training they are able to attract more people to phlebotomy which in turn will help to keep the salary in check. More importantly most of them will require you to work for them for certain period of time after completing your phlebotomy certification.
The incentive for the government is obvious as it does not have to pay unemployment assistance as soon as you get placed as a phlebotomist. The initiative helps the overall economy by keeping unemployment in check as well.
Finally you can get some free phlebotomy training opportunities with online training organizations as well. They do so to create goodwill and with the hope that when the next batch of students ask you for recommendations, you will be too happy to recommend their name.
Please note that the free phlebotomy program covers the fee for classroom and clinical activities that have to be completed as part of basic educational requirements for obtaining phlebotomy certification. You will need to pay the fees that need to be paid to the certifying agency for getting the application form.
